Roy V. West-Founder
After nearly a decade of drilling seismograph holes all over the country and 11 years of drilling water wells for C.P. Clark, Roy V. West Water Well Drilling was started by its namesake and founder on July 5, 1962. With a monoplex mud pump, homemade draw works, a salvage derrick, and some help from his father, Roy put over 20 years of drilling experience to use and began drilling home wells. In 1962 the need for home wells was in abundance. This need and Roy’s hard work and dedication led the business to grow quickly. Before long he was able to purchase a more suitable rig and began to expand into commercial drilling and service. Roy’s three sons, Roy Jr. (Butch), Bruce, and David were always nearby and often called on to work with their father on Saturdays, Holiday breaks, and most definitely summers.
Family Pride
This foundation of hard work and experience would prove to be invaluable to the three sons as time progressed. All three would end up working full time for their father at some point, with David electing to make it his full-time career beginning in 1977.
Our Commitment
David and Roy worked side by side for many years. Often, they were each other’s only help. Even through slow times when there was not much water well work to be done, they found a way to keep going and keep the business alive. In 1987 the poultry industry began to thrive in South MS and gone were the days of wondering if there would be work to do, replaced by wondering how all the work would get done. Due to an auto accident in 1991, Roy had to take a step back from the business leaving David to run the business in its entirety. Roy continued to help where he could, often doing service calls with David’s son, Travis. The generational knowledge passed down during this time would prove to be the formidable foundation of what Roy V. West Water Well Drilling would grow to become. Roy would continue to serve as a constant source of knowledge and counsel to both David and Travis until his death in 2019.
2nd Generation Family-Owned Business
David West- 2nd Generation
After years of helping his father Roy with the water well business as a child and teenager, David joined Roy V. West Water Well Drilling Inc. full time in August 1977. Working alongside Roy for the next 14 years, David grew the business into the poultry industry as well as other pivotal industries in South MS such as wood yards. Many of the relationships with customers built by David in the 1980s are still in place today. When Roy was forced to semi retire in 1991, David became the driving force behind the growth of the business. His knowledge as a well driller and his honesty and integrity further cemented the West name in the area water well industry. David was responsible for all aspects of the business until 2005 when his son Travis began to help in a full-time capacity. David continued to help and support the business, not only by working in the field but by also providing the same knowledge and counsel to his son that his father had provided to him. David was the force behind the growth and stability of the business from August 1977 until his much-deserved retirement in December 2023. Over 46 years of hard work and dedication.
3rd Generation Vision and Dedication
Travis West – 3rd generation, grew up immersed in the family business, learning the ropes from his grandfather Roy and father David at a young age. Spending summers and holidays working alongside the seasoned professionals, Travis developed a deep understanding of water well drilling and the values that define the company. After earning his BA in Geology from the University of Alabama in 2007, Travis officially joined Roy V. West Water Well Drilling in a full-time capacity in 2005, even while commuting to U of A once a week to pursue his degree.
Travis's vision and dedication led to the expansion of the business into the oil industry water supply sector and commercial/industrial work, marking a significant diversification beyond traditional water well drilling. Under his leadership, the company ventured into industrial services, filtration, and oilfield services, demonstrating agility and adaptability in responding to evolving market demands.
In January 2023, Travis's commitment to the family legacy and business excellence was further solidified when his wife, MJ West, joined the company. Together, they continue to uphold the values of integrity, professionalism, and customer satisfaction instilled by previous generations. Travis and MJ's shared dedication to the business is complemented by their family life, with their children Wyatt, Walters, Wrett, and Morgan Kate adding vibrancy and inspiration to their journey.
